Miri - things I would miss

 

Spending my last day at the office – doing it in the most leisure way. Sure gonna miss it badly. Internet access, Wi-Fi, boss not bothering too much… what else? See? I told you I have got way to cosy with the same routine that I know how and when to 'mengulat'. Enjoy it while you can… hehe =)

Since I don't have much to do, I've decided to write some notes on things that I would miss about Miri.

Nasi Lalapan + Teh C Peng Special

Let me elaborate more about this, since I plan to get a set for dinner this evening. Those who come to Miri, it's a must try! Well it is not originally from Miri, but Miri is famous for this Lalapan. It is basically a set of meal with deep-fry chicken (or you can choose between meat, fish or prawn) + ulam + fried tofu & tempe + sambal belacan. It is more like 'ayam penyet', what make it special is the sambal belacan. I love it! It has tomatoes and onion in it. I learnt from Siti, my x-housemate in Senadin – just sauté all ingredients (chillies, belacan, onion and tomatoes) than mash or blend them. Add salt, sugar and lime @ calamansi juice to taste. Simple kan? Try Lalapan with Teh C Peng Special, it's a great combo. It is actually 'teh ais' with some twist in it. Also known as 3-layer tea (read it once in GoTravel magazine), it has palm sugar, ideal milk (susu cair) and tea; served in layers. Sometime the palm sugar is replaced with 'gula pandan', but trust me – palm sugar taste better. It tastes like 'cendol' without 'cendol', and the ideal milk make it creamier but less sweet.

Midin

Midin is a type of vegetable from fern family. As Miri is located on delta area, it is available almost everywhere at the local market. If in West Malaysia, we have 'pucuk paku', in Miri we have many kind of 'pucuk paku' with different shape. They taste most likely the same. The different is they only sell the shoot, arranged nicely in small basket, cost about RM1 @ RM2 each. Just wash clean the veggie and ready to cook. Save the prep time.

Kek Lapis Sarawak – of course Sarawak is well known for its layer cake with fancy names and nice rainbow colour.

Ikan Terubok Masin

Available throughout the year and so cheap compare to West Malaysia. Well I am not a big fan but always got order from my sisters everytime I balik kampong. And they made the packaging so convenience for you to travel with.

Laksa Sarawak

It is totally different from Laksa Penang @ Johor as there is no fish at all. For me it tastes more like curry noodle. I've cooked it at home once and my families like it – or is it because there were hungry waiting for me to prepare the meals.

The batik & handicraft

I like the sarong as the design is different from Malay sarong. And I love the craft too, especially the bags.

 

Two years in Miri, I have collected so many memories that could never be erased. Yes I have achieved one of my goal – to come to work in Borneo island. This is the place where I started my career, and the place where I met my fiancée. Hoping a better brighter future awaits me as I move on and on and on.

Ikan…

Semalam bace blog Jedah pasal 'Perlu ke jawapan teka-teki itu logik'. Jadi saye hafal teka-teki tu nak test sayang saye. Teringat dulu mase kami mule2 nak bercinta baru nak kenal hati masing2. Kire stage malu2 lagi la nak cite pasal diri masing2. Jadi cari la topik yang lebih santai – teka-teki.

Q : Ikan ape banyak mata?

A : Ikan bilis 1 kg. [Kenapa bukan ikan kembung 1 lori? Jawapan saye ikan bilis 1 lori lg banyak mata dari ikan kembong 1 lori]

Tak puas hati die cube nak kenakan saye balik.

Q : Ikan ape takde mata?

A : Ikan sardine dalam tin [tuna dalam tin pon bole jugak]

Geram sebab saye dapat jawab dgn mudah, die tanye lagi..

Q : Ikan ape ade 3 mata?

A : Ikan kena mata kail.

Hahaha. Tu la dulu bukan main happy die kenakan saye yang tak bape tere main teka teki. Semalam dah stadi dulu tu yg dapat jawab dgn cemerlang~

 

 

Miri to Kuantan

 

Lagi 3 hari, I am leaving Miri for good. Hopefully everything will be as planned. Excited + nervous nak start keja kat tempat baru. Excited dapat balik semenanjung, nervous sebab tak dapat nak predict my nature of work kat tempat baru, skop keja baru and staf baru yang saling tak kenal. Responsibility kat sana pon lebih besar compare kat sini. Maybe I am so used to repeating the same job that now I am so good at it, make me a little bit nervous thinking that my soon to be boss is expecting something good from me. Funny isn't it when he called sayang telling him I will be working with Rxx Mxx and personally asked him to guide me on technical matters. Sometimes I just think am I good and tough enough to be an engineer, or perhaps I should slow down a bit and go for a less technical job, which I can't think of one...

Kat sini I have bos, senior and colleagues to refer to, how I am going to survive there. Thinking of that make me wanna stay in this office forever, or perhaps reconsider the offer my boss made; stay here for another year and he'll recommend me for permanent post so that I can be transfer to KL. Yes my boss is generous enough and very understanding, but not the management. In fact the management has submitted a candidate for my replacement. Office politics and I am not good at it. I can see in my current office those who stay closer to PM office would probably stay longer than others. Those who serve the PM directly will have a brighter future. Lately I have been gossiping around with officemate about our future in this company. It is a big name in industry but there's no warranty you can serve the company up to end of year at least.

Well it is rezeki masing-masing. You have to do what you have to do. Ever since sayang left for other job, my working momentum is going down bit by bit. The only thing that keeps me going is by making me busy. Sometimes I just can't pretend to be busy like others. It just doesn't work anymore. Luckily sayang is onshore, I just call him whenever I fell like talking to him. Understood he is currently very busy and under pressure, well I just need someone to talk to, someone who would understand thing s I am saying. And I think the biggest trait is that I just can't stand working with my ex-housemates anymore. I tried hard not to think about them, just forgive and forget, but it is hard for me to do it when one of them is sitting next to me. Sometimes she just pulling this diva act in front of me, and I just can't stand that. Yesterday while cleaning up my pc, I found this personality test file and tried it. The result is somehow coincidently true enough…' stay away from traitors and jealous people so that you can be stress-free'. Hopefully I won't be meeting these 'kinds' of people at my new workplace.

Try not to put high expectation on my new employer, hoping that brighter future awaits for me there..Insaallah. As always I pray Allah would permudahkan segala urusan di Miri, I hope Kuantan is going to be an even better place for me. Best of all this year fruit's season, I will be around eating those fruit I had been missing for the past 2 years.

Day Trip - Labuan

 

Semalam adalah 1 hari yang tidak dirancang – I flew to Labuan. Memang dah lama teringin nak jejak kaki kat pulau kecil ni. Intention sebenar adalah sebab nak merasa naik flight Foker operate by Maswings. Last minit book flight one day before travel, ambil day trip pagi, return malam. Since it was an unplanned vacation, memang tak prepare apa2. Saturday tu pon busy siapkan kerja kat office, then cepat2 balik rumah cuci baju and peking2 barang. Well tak risau sangat since Akram ada kat sana.

Sunday started early. I woke up at 6 am [its weekend ok!]. Arrive at airport early, check-in for return trip. Since masih awal sempat pergi jenguk2 kat convenience shop looking for small bag nak letak birthday present Akram [bought him cute green hippo contact lenses case]. It was 0723 am when I realized that I forgot to bring my blue passport (work permit for Sabah & Sarawak) and flight plan take off at 0805am. Nasib baik decided to park my car kat airport, quickly rush nak ambil passport. In 30 minutes berjaya balik ambil passport, berlari2 naik tangga office [luckily I kept it at office], berlari2 naik eskolator kat departure hall, rempuh kawalan Imigresen, cop passport and naik flight. What a record. Masa tengah cop passport adalah last call for me untuk board the airplane… so lucky.

Dalam pening2 tak abes lagi sampai Labuan Akram bawa pergi breakfast dulu. Coincidently jumpa my roommate masa kat UTP – Pijot tengah breakfast kat kedai yang sama. Dari jauh nampak kakak Pijot, pastu babah Pijot, yang sorang lagi ni kompem Pijot. Dapat jumpa kejap je since diorang nak catch the next ferry to KK.

Lepas makan pergi shopping kain batik kat town, then tour around the island, beli coklat and makan2. Kecik je Labuan ni, ½ hari dah abes jalan. Part paling emo adalah bila nak balik Miri malam tu. Sedihnye sebab this might be the 1^st and last trip to Labuan, as 22/04 will be my last present in Borneo Island. I will be leaving Miri for Kuantan. Sedih nak tinggal sayang saye kat Labuan. Be tough! Insyaallah everything will be back to normal after 2 months. Bertahan~

Serabut~

 

Serabutnye hari ni.. seserabut network St Joseph PPD ni. Tak boleh nak fokus buat kerja. Dah tender berhenti kerja tadi, tapi tak official lagi. Bos dah tau, dah submit kat HR, cume HR tak finalize lagi sebab 1^st case tender notice less than 2 months, and I have to bare the 2 months notice. Then my boss datang minta siapkan schedule by Monday. It will be my last schedule. Report due next week. Patutkah disiapkan, atau patut handover sekarang. Campur serabut kompeni baru yg nak book flite suruh attend kick off meeting kat Kuantan. Hello~ I am currently in Miri rite know. Nak tukar 2 flite 2 reach Kuantan and fly back to Miri on the same day as my last day would be on 21^st April. You think that can fit in my 1 day schedule???
